Samurai Troopers Until You Can (1)  Hideo Okamoto's Collection of Rough Armor Designs From among the design drafts by Hideo Okamoto* of armor design, displayed here are carefully selected and published original designs for the Samurai Troopers!
He has also participated in the interview (Page 97) of this book. (*Hideo Okamoto is one of the top names in the anime industry who's known for his armor and mecha design.) Subarmor What was used for past movie, art, and guide books. Displayed here are the design drafts for the subarmors. These pictures were used as a prototype. The motif of a "ninja" was used. You can see the characteristic of this because of how the face is covered by a mask.
Easier to read English translation Subarmor Used in movie books, artbooks and guidebooks. Here are the initial design drafts of each subarmor. These prototype images used the "ninja" motif as inspiration, especially in the covering of the face with a mask.
Both of these are rough drafts, but there's not much difference between this and what's seen in the main story. (The art of the main story is presumed to have been drawn much later.) The first color version of their armors from the image board can be seen on page 14 of this book. That first color version seems like it was drawn during the same time that these design drafts were. The weapons that the Samurai Troopers have are almost the same as the draft version, except that the ones for Kongo and Suiko are different.
Looking at the design draft of Arago in the picture on the right, the main design is not much different from the draft version. The pattern of light-like swords on the back, as well as the chest plate, don't seem very different. However, other details, such as the blades at the knees, are different. Also, Byakuen-ou's two designs on the left seem quite different. There were many designs that were considered before the final version was settled on.

Samurai Troopers Until you can (2) Akira Kanayama's Rough Character Design Collection For the character design of the "Samurai Troopers", Akira Kanayama (Japan's one of two EXTREMELY popular artists, 1924 - 2006) made a rough draft of the original designs for these characters. Here it is. This time they were carefully selected and posted here, to be included with this precious group! The Heroes The time from planning to animating the "Samurai Troopers" was short. Many things were taken into consideration when it came ot the designs up until this point. If you look at the rough draft design here, showing the main characters, respectively, you'll see how not only the names are different, but that they now have a Western style. Their ages are all different and it's interesting. Asawan, Saiza, Ajamaru and Shija are from the right. Text to the left of Nasutei Image of each character This is a rough draft early design of each character. In addition to the size of this group, and the four enemies (shown at the bottom of this page), you can see a person named 'Darunan' is included (upper right corner). In the middle of the lower row there is already a woman named "Nasti" (her age is 20). Text beneath Nasutei The heroine is a boyish A type * (earnest and neat) person. This might seem old-fashioned, but the B type (pasionate and creative) were being considered as well.
In the end, it feels like both were added together, then divided by two. What's left in common is "Let's both enjoy life", I suppose. Along with the heroine, there's also the design of a boy who joins the protagonists. Although this character later on becomes Jun Yamano, the only real difference is that he wears a pair of shorts (laughs). (* Blood Types in Japan are a bit like asking what Zodiac or Astrological sign a person is. They believe that people with certain blood types have particular character traits.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The 4 Tenno (Heavenly Kings) (The 4 Masho / Demon Generals) The 4 Tenno, what we now know as the 4 Masho, were always meant to be the enemies. These were the initial designs that Mr. Kanayama had drawn, and that these rough draft designs are how these characters began. It's surprising. Out of the 4 Tenno, there's Naaza (second from the right side), who has a (genuinely happy?) smile on his face.
TV Series Settings - Reference Materials Kayura At first she was seen as a female Youja who appeared as a subordinate of the resurrected Arago. As a warrior, she showed a fighting ability that surpassed the Mashou and all of Arago's other warriors. Her true identity is that she's a descendant of the clan of Kaosu. Wisteria Flower Hat This is what she wore when she appeared to activate the Kikoutei armor. She achieved this goal by using the power of 3 Mashou and Tenku's armor, along with using the light sand entrusted to her by Badamon (Episode 32). When Kayura appeared, wisteria flowers danced in the air. This was really intense at that time. The Beautiful Star Swords These are a pair of swords that can be used to perform the special attack called the Ran Sei Zan (Storm Cut). Normally, these swords sit on his back in an X-shape. The tsuba part (the sheath is typically elaborately decorated and made of steel) is designed to open when it is pulled out of the scabbard. Chest plate Her memories are sealed by a Youja barrier. When this chest place is shattered, Kayura is able to regain the memories of her past. Junihitoe Kayura's appearance when she is in the Beautiful Star Shrine at Arago's castle. She looks like a fragile princess with sorrow in her heart. (A junihitoe is a style of formal court dress first worn in the Heian period - 794 AD – 1185 AD - by noble women and ladies-in-waiting at the Japanese Imperial Court. The junihitoe was composed of a number of kimono-like robes, layered on top of each other, with the outer robes cut both larger and thinner to reveal the layered garments underneath.)
Kayura as a child Her appearance when she was seven or eight years old. At this time, she was kidnapped by Arago's Youja soldiers. He sealed away her memories and made her into a female Youja.
